Network Cabling Technician

Automation Personnel Services is recruiting a Temporary Network Cabling Technician to support a crucial infrastructure upgrade project at a Baytown facility. This position involves installing, organizing, and testing new network cabling and related hardware to enhance operational efficiency. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and able to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.

Duration : 1–3 months Project-Based

Duties and Responsibilities

• Install, pull, terminate, and test CAT6, CAT6A, and fiber optic cables.
• Mount and install network racks, cabinets, patch panels, and cable management systems.
• Install and secure conduits, cable trays, and J-hooks.
• Terminate copper cables with RJ45 connectors and punch down on 110-style and Krone blocks.
• Assist with installing wireless access points (WAPs), cameras, and other low-voltage devices.
• Clearly and accurately label all cables and components.
• Perform testing and certification of cable runs using cable testers (e.g., Fluke).
• Follow company safety policies and PPE requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Work from ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces (ceilings, crawl spaces).

Qualifications and Requirements

• Minimum 1 year experience in low-voltage structured cabling.
• Skilled in terminating and punching down copper cables.
• Ability to read and interpret basic floor plans, schematics, and run lists.
• Strong knowledge of network cabling standards.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, kneel, and work overhead for extended periods.
• Proficiency with hand tools (punch-down tool, crimper, stripper, snips).
• Reliable transportation.
• Strong work ethic, punctuality, and professional demeanor.

Preferred Qualifications (a plus, not required)

• Certifications: CCNA, BICSI Installer 1 or 2, Fiber Optic Technician (FOT).
• Experience with fiber optic termination (fusion splicing, LC/SC connectors).
• Familiarity with advanced testing tools (e.g., Fluke Networks DSX).
• Basic understanding of networking fundamentals and IP addressing.
