OVERVIEW:
The Housing Supports Case Manager works across all areas of the Housing Supports Department, providing supportive services, case management, conducting screens and intakes, assisting with housing searches, responding to external referrals, and supporting operational activities including data input. The role may involve coverage at the Metro Housing | Boston office and co-location sites. Activities vary based on departmental needs.
REPORTS TO: Housing Supports Manager
RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
The following are general responsibilities; other duties may be assigned.
Provide information, referral services, and brief counseling around immediate client concerns such as financial instability, legal issues, mental health, substance abuse, employment, healthcare, and housing.
Obtain resources and services, including housing applications, negotiations with property owners, utility companies, fuel assistance, and shelter information.
Administer homelessness prevention funds like RAFT, including conducting intakes, screening for eligibility, and meeting with clients to complete paperwork and determine actions.
Assist clients with ongoing housing searches, including contacting landlords, accompanying clients to viewings, and attending appointments.
Support clients with move-in transition needs, such as furniture, budgeting, and resources.
Maintain ongoing relationships with placed clients and connect them to community supports.
Collaborate with staff to develop and conduct housing search workshops.
Assist with operational activities within Housing Supports.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in case management or assessment with homeless or at-risk households.
Familiarity with affordable housing and subsidies.
Experience with crisis intervention related to homelessness and housing access.
Knowledge of service agencies and resources for low-income and homeless populations.
Teamwork and organizational skills.
Sensitivity to diverse populations.
Ability to work in a busy, diverse environment.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
PREFERENCE GIVEN TO:
Multilingual candidates (English and at least one of Cape Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole, Spanish, or Portuguese).
Candidates able to work late evenings on Thursdays.
