Assist Registered Nurse in providing direct patient care to multiple patients at a time on a designated nursing unit. Responsibilities include performing and/or assisting patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, eating, walking, maintaining environmental cleanliness and safety of patient rooms, unit and equipment. Provide assistance to patients, visitors and nursing personnel in assigned unit and maintain flexibility to help other departments with patient care as needed. Assist in creating the ideal patient experience through development of respectful and compassionate relationships with each patient and family. May serve as a patient safety champion, empowering equal responsibility for all safety guidelines among all licensed and unlicensed caregivers. May assist in telemetry cardiac monitoring, recognizing life threatening arrhythmias and communicating immediately to available licensed clinician. May act as a transporter for the nursing unit assigned and run errands to pick up or deliver items for patient care. Perform delegable nursing tasks delegated by the Registered Nurse that do not require judgment or complex observations, including waived testing, specimen collection, nasogastric tube care, 12 lead EKG, and simple clean non-sterile dressing changes. Accurately collect data such as height, weight, vital signs, intake and output, and record data on appropriate documentation forms. Competent in use of portable technology for measurement and documentation. Report patient observations and concerns to the Registered Nurse. Assist hospital visitors and staff with information needs, utilize wireless devices and technology for healthcare coordination, serve as super user for nursing assistant IT and/or preceptor for new nursing assistants. Maintain supplies and equipment necessary for patient care operations and handle supplies, medications, and lab specimens transported within the unit. Other duties as requested by supervisor. Minimum qualifications include High School or GED. 16- and 17-year-olds without diploma or GED considered with valid work permit; 18-year-olds enrolled in high school do not need diploma/GED/work permit. Work shift is day, scheduled weekly hours 40.
